Challenger TAFE Adult Education Bonsai Workshop #1 - 2003

The Venue

Conducted by Challenger TAFE Centre for Adult Education, our first "Basics of Bonsai" workshop in this series was set inside the leafy courtyards of the John Curtin College of the Arts in Fremantle on Saturday 22nd of November 2003.

The large Science Lab setting was ideal, giving us plenty of room for presenter Liana, attendees and an enormous amount of Bonsai requisites.  There were pots, tools, soils, gravels, more than enough stock trees to develop into Bonsai and of course Liana's ready potted Bonsai in many different styles.

The Event
Congratulations to
                      all....!
By starting time of 10.00 am, all was ready and we didn't waste a minute - there was much to do and discuss in our allotted six hours.  With twenty different species of tree and ten different styles to prepare, considerable effort was put into pruning, wiring, shaping, trimming roots and positioning the Bonsai in their pots.

We worked on styles such as "root over rock", "windswept" and "raft" and at times needed to repair damaged trunks and split branches.  Everyone prepared their Bonsai with vigour and achieved sensational results.  We then took time for questions and answers and to collectively discuss the challenges we had all faced and overcome during the very interactive session.

The gathering for a photograph or two was a must - our thanks and congratulations go to Challenger TAFE Centre for Adult Education and the six participants, who are proud to show their Bonsai creations to the world...!
